Kanyakumari

                  Kanyakumari is a land of handicrafts. The seas Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal convulge at a point Cape Comorin in this small town. Mainly tourists throng this place. Locals are having busy business here. Though the main language is Tamil (thanks to Marshal Nesamony who struggled to include this district to the then Madras state), many of them speak Hindi for doing business with the tourists from Northern part of India. 

                 The articles made use of sea shells (gifts, decorative things, ornaments) and coirs (mats, hand bags, gifts) are cheaply available.These products form the major revenue for the artisans. We can see these shops all along the way to beach. Shopping here is a nice experience. 

                  Triveni Sangamam, where the three seas converge, is where people take the holy dip. Goddess KanyaKumari Amman adorns the temple along the beach. Shops inside the temple have more wooden crafts things to purchase. Sunrise and sunset invite more people towards the beach. The hotel staff give a morning call to see the sunrise.

                   The patriotism takes up as we step inside the Gandhi Mandapam. The place houses the ash of Mahatma Gandhi is worshiped by the people. Every year on October 2nd (Gandhi's B'Day) the sun rays falls accurately over this place. The newly included Kamarajar Manimandapam keeps the pictures and records about the life of that great man.

Vivekananda Rock

Ferry boats bring us to this rock. The way the staff in the boat aboard the passengers in a jiffy is great.The 'Paadam' (foot) of the goddess Kanyakumari  is on the rock. The Great Hindu Reformer, Swami Vivekananda's statue and his guru Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the holy mother Sarada Devi photos are here. 'Thyana Mandapam' (place of worship) -  silence and serenity of the place create an innerfaith and spirituality.  Some people sit there and meditate. The sound of 'Ohm' rings in our ears.

Tiruvalluvar Statue

This statue is 133 feet and viewed from the Vivekananda Rock itself. When there is low tides, they wont allow people to embark there. The rock is not fully functional as the depth for the ferry boat is not enough to stop over there. When there is high tides, the ferries embark people as there is enough depth.
